I got a little carried away in my last post with the admiration i have for what Earth has been through. Obviously i do care about the environment, we may not be able to hurt the planet at all, but do risk losing everything we think is pretty, and that's not cool.

Yeah, if you think of earth as just the solid mass that is far beneath the surface -- like some solid rock or something -- then yeah, the planet is pretty resilient and will survive no matter what we humans do. But if you think of earth as the part that supports all living creatures -- animals and plants -- and you look at what is happening to the air, the water, the food supply, the land, all the parts that support us -- then you realize how damn fragile it all is, and how far we have come in destroying all that supports us as species. It's like we as a species are on a suicide mission.
It's not just that we are destroying everything that's pretty -- although I myself value beauty -- it's that we are destroying what we need to live and survive on this planet.
I still remember what it was like to be in high school. In some ways, I am the very same person. In some ways, I am nothing like that person.
